WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOOMSDAY PREDICTION OF AN EXPECTED SPIKE IN COVID-19 INFECTIONS?
Like ferocious predators, the IPRAN group and their collaborators in the CSOs kicked against the registration exercise.
After exhausting the lame and unconvincing arguments which could not alter the planned compilation of the new registration exercise, these groups changed gears as they switched to a more, sensitive and sentimental line of argument.
They banked their hopes on COVID-19 as they believed it held the key to their insatiable advocacy to have the registration exercise cancelled.
We would have spikes in the infected cases of COVID-19, that was their mantra. They said if the registration exercise was not cancelled, thousands would contract it and increase the rates of infections.
The registration exercise is nearing its completion today but we did not see any significant changes in the number of infected cases.
The aggression with which they campaigned heavily against the registration exercise was clearly misplaced if not misleading.
The funny thing is that these anti-new voter registration exercise programmes defied all the odds by registering.
When emotions outplay common sense, the tendency for people, even some of the enlightened ones, to betray their analytical abilities is very high.
