The current Okyenehene, Osagyefuor Amoatia Ofori Panin, through his father Oheneba Yaw Boakye Ofori Atta, together with the President, Nana Akufo Addo, through his mother Mrs Adeline Akufo Addo, share a common grandfather known in Christian missionary circles as Evangelist Yaw Boakye who was more properly known as Nana Yaw Boakye Danquah, who was actually born at Kyebi to a Juaben father and an Asante Mampong mother, both of who together formed part of the large body of Juaben war refugees, who under the leadership of Juabenhene Juaben Boaten, took refuge at Kyebi, after the Juabens lost a brutal war of seccession to Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Yaw Akoto in 1835

It was Okyenhene Osagyefuor Afia Dokuaa, a seasoned veteran of many military campaigns agains the Asantehene Empire, who gave the fleeing Juabens, succour and protection at Kyebi, during those turbulent times. Nana Yaw Boakye Danquah was believed to have been born and bred at Kyebi, and so grew up as a typical Kyebinese, and was best childhood friends with Okyenhene Osagyefuor Amoako Atta 1, who in reward for his services as the Chief State Drummer of Akyem Abuakwa, gave his niece in marriage to Nana Yaw Boakye, well before he converted to Christianity, and went on to become an Evangelist of the Basel Mission of the Gold Coast. It was this royal marriage which in time yielded Odeshe’eh, Eugene Boakye Danquah, the future Osagyefuor Ofori Atta1. A second royal marriage into the Asona Royal House of Kyebi Adadientem, after the death of his first wife, yielded Joseph Boakye Danquah, the Doyen of Ghana Politics. And so you see, the people of Asante Mampong and Juaben, both have and equal claim to the ownership of both Nana Sir Ofori Atta 1, Okyenhene, and Dr J.B. Danquah, the Doyen of Ghana Politics. And as such, I believe that the Asantehene as the Supreme Overlord of all Ashantis, has the righ to claim the part of the ownership rights reserved for Asante Mampong and Juaben, on their joint behalf behalf, back to Ashanti! And so what really is the sense in the often trumped up perception of Asante – Akyem rivalry in Ghana in Ghana Politics, Chieftaincy and Culture?!. It is time for both sides of the same family coin, to sit down together to craft and put in place, a better management system for the social, cultural, economic and political relations between these most closely related of peoples!

This historical and educative piece de-constructing part of the lineage of the Akyem Royal Household and its close inter-twinning kinship and relationships with the people of Juaben, Asante Mampong in particular and Asanteman in general.
