TOGBE AFEDE’S FAILURE TO RESPOND TO MAHAMA’S ETHNOCENTRIC COMMENTS AGAINST AKYEMS IS PROBLEMATIC
The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, has denied penning a release making the rounds in which the outfit is said to have condemned John Dramani Mahama for his uncouth behavior of describing Akyems as mafias and sakawas.
Togbe Afede stated that the release which went viral, attracted a lot of attention and put the name of the association into disrepute.
He believes the letter was written by some unscrupulous individuals for reasons which could only be mischief-driven.
The President of the NHC harped on the fact that the statement purportedly written by the outfit was to use the traditional body to give legitimacy to the Agyapa Royalties deal which, in his view, is a bad venture by all standards.
Shockingly, despite the message carried by the headline of the ‘fake’ press statement which largely talked about the ethnocentric comments made by Mr. Mahama, Togbe chose to deal with an issue which was not the basis for the said release.
The theme of the release however its intention, was the NHC having condemned Mahama and not giving meat to the Agyapa Royalties idea.
However, in his response, Togbe Afede walked away from that topic, the gravamen of the issue raised in the release. The major issue failed to attract his attention and an issue quite foreign to the release dominated his mind.
Clearly, Togbe Afede was on a mission to set his own questions and respond to same while the theme was ignored.
It beggars belief that Togbe Afede did not address the tribalistic tendencies of Mahama which was the subject of the release but jumped over it to talk about a topic not familiar with the topic or headline in issue.
It also brings forth something that is more bizarre than interesting. Togbe did not condemn Mahama over those unfortunate comments. It means that, simply stretching the argument, Togbe Afede endorses the ethnocentric comments made by Mahama.
A house of chiefs worth its salt would condemn such retrogressive and ethnically destructive and insensitive comments made by John Dramani Mahama. Togbe is with Mahama in his pernicious mindset.
