RE: WESTERN REGION CHIEF FISHERMEN VISIT MAHAMA

The attention of Evalue Ajomoro Gwira NPP has been drawn to a video making rounds on social media, in which the Chief fisherman of Lower Axim Traditional area, Nana Kofi Bentil led a delegation of Fishermen to former President Mahama.

The 1992 constitution of the republic frowns on chiefs engaging in partisan politics and must be respected and observed accordingly.

In the video Nana Bentil makes various submissions on the fishing community in Axim. The issue he raised are full of propaganda and falsehood ostensibly to slight the good works of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the Member of Parliament of the constituency, Honourable Catherine Abelema Afeku who also doubles as a Minister of State at the Presidency and the MCE, Hon. Frank Okpyenyen.

It is so disgusting and disgraceful to see a chief we adore in our community fumbling and trembling in front of the delegation. If he was not coached, then we believe he was not prepared for the arranged bussing of NDC fishermen to see the former president. Indeed Nana Bentil, we agree with you that Mahama can only be president again in 1921!

In the video, Nana Bentil, Chief Fisherman of Lower Axim is seen pledging his support including that of his family to Former President Mahama. He also claimed that Axim fishing community is an Orphan community indicating a lack of care from the NPP government.

We wish to state categorically that the claims by the chief are false and not a true reflection of the state of the fishing community in Axim. It is an undeniable fact that, Axim and its environs have seen unprecedented developmental projects under the Nana Addo led NPP government.

These include the construction of the sea defence wall which hitherto the fishing communities experienced flooding, destruction of properties and loss of lives during high tide. This has been persistent for decades, until Nana Addo’s pledge of fixing the problem in the run-up to the 2016 elections. How can a Chief fisherman whose people, land and structures are being saved by His excellency Nana Addo, Hon. Catherine and MCE Frank refer to his community as Orphan community?

The commencement of the construction of the Axim fishing harbour by China Habour is unprecedented in the history of Axim. The benefits of this project are immense and its completion will be a great relief to the fishing community.

Nana Bentil who knows the history of the fishing harbour through his interaction with the late Gladys Asmah bemoaned the neglect of the Mills -Mahama eight year rule during the visit of the Minister of transport ,Hon. Kweku Ofori Asiamah barely three months ago for inspection of the fishing harbour site.

It was for this reason that he said in his welcome address which is in a video we have that “Unless a man marry two women, he no go know better woman” indicating that after being married to NDC government for eight years and being married to NPP for just three years, he has seen that the NPP government is better than the NDC.

What suddenly changed for Nana Bentil to start singing the song of the NDC? This double mouth and double standards must stop. Axim deserves better.

The same man who was yesterday praising the Nana Addo led government for responding to the needs of the Fishermen in Nzema East is now calling the fishermen in Axim “orphan Fishermen”
We want to state unequivocally that a family member of Nana Bentil is currently employed as a driver in Nana Addo’s Fishing Harbour construction at Axim. If he, his wife and children will be campaigning for Mahama then he should let his relative resign and wait for Mahama’s Presidency in 1921 as he put it.

On record, Nana Bentil the Chief fisherman is accorded a priority status in all premix fuel distribution in Axim. He takes fuel from every Landing Beach anytime there’s fuel supply. This is a privilege given to him as chief Fisherman. How can someone who’s given such privilege claim to be an orphan fisherman?

It must also be stated that under the NPP government, Axim receives more premix fuel supply as compared to other communities in Nzema. This we believe is something the chief fisherman should be grateful for because he is the number one beneficiary because of his position.

We cannot be ungrateful to the President, Hon.Catherine Abelema Afeku and Hon.Frank Okpyenyen for the great works they have done so far and continue to do.
Three years under Nana Addo’s government Nzema East can boast of:
Sea defense wall

Fishing Harbour

Ultra-modern Victoria Park ceremonial ground

Sports stadium and youth Centre

Ongoing cocoa roads in the Gwira enclave

DVLA Office

Ongoing Axim township roads

Cocoa District for Nzema East

Massive employment skill training.

Just to mention a few. We have firm belief that very soon Axim will have its fair share of the 41,000 outboard motors that will be supplied by the NPP government in all coastal areas across Ghana.
These among many others are physical and evidence based projects that are currently ongoing in Nzema East.

Indeed Our research revealed that some of the chiefs were deceived by being informed that they were going to visit President Nana Akufo Addo. So they prepared their appreciation speech on the sea defence wall and the fishing harbour at Axim only for them to be sent to Mahama’s house.

We wish to call on all major stakeholders; Traditional Authorities, The youth, clergy etc to give their unflinching support to the Nana Addo led NPP government to build a better future especially for the youth in the Nzema East Municipality.

We the youth will not entertain any cheap propaganda and double mouth borne out of greed and selfish interest. We will rise against any individual who places his stomach above the collective interest of the youth and the good people of Nzema East.

Long live NPP
Long live Nzema East.
