NDC’S LOGIC: IT IS DANGEROUS TO QUEUE TO REGISTER FOR GHANA CARD BUT GOOD TO QUEUE TO VOTE

There was a groundswell of support against the continuous registration of Ghanaians by the National Identification Authority resulting in the authority bringing the exercise to a halt midway.

The NDC, as usual, wouldn’t let such an opportunity to slip out of their hands since they see an advantage to be gained.

The opposition party said that the country has been bogged down by an ostensibly irremediable cataclysm called coronavirus.

The NIA’s exercise, they said, was jeopardizing the lives of the people and had to be halted.

The Electoral Commission, though unofficial, has hinted that uncertainty looms large as far as the 2020 elections are concerned.

If coronavirus continues to batter the country, according to an official of the Commission who spoke on radio, the EC would have no other choice than to postpone the 2020 polls.

This new development doesn’t appear to meet the happy agreement of the NDC.

In a press statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, this idea of abandoning the 2020 elections is a recipe for controversy and chaos.

They cannot come to terms with the possibility that the 2020 polls may not come on as a result of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

What this means is that the NDC would want the EC to go ahead with its preparations for the 2020 elections despite the dangers posed to Ghanaians should they queue to vote.

Queuing to register for the Ghana Card would spread coronavirus but queuing to vote would not affect the electorate, they portray.

Cold-heartedness forms part of their DNA. There should be elections but same cannot be done for the Ghana Card registration exercise! This Animal Farm syndrome must not find space in our political landscape.
