With the advent of the 4th Republic of Ghana’s Democratic dispensation, the NDC has chosen their running mates from the Central Region.
Such Central Region citizens have normally been men of substance and the phenomenon started with President Rawlings who chose Kow Nkensen Arkaah and Professor Mills who latter become president of our Republic. President Mahama settled on Amissah Arthur and now on Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang; the only female the NDC has nominated. All these person have coincidentally come from the Central region.
With this trajectory, the NDC has been enjoying a lot of goodwill from the electorates within the region during elections. The Central Region has always been tagged as a swing region and all governments that have had the opportunity to rule our country have tried to develop the region in order to keep faith with them.
With this as the background, the Assin Central member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong has thrown a challenge to the NDC to name just one monumental project they have done for the people of Central Region. “They cannot name not even one of such a project”. It was during the PNDC era that Rawlings constructed the Accra Yamoransa Road, not NDC”.
According to the member of Parliament, all the projects the NDC has been touting as their projects they have done for Central Region, were all projects started by President’s Kufuor. “The Cape Coast Sports Stadium, the Kotokoraba Market and the Mallam Junction Yamoransa road were initiated by President Kufuor”. Those that were not completed were continued by president Mills and were finished by President Mahama”. He added that none of these projects were initiated by the NDC nor President Mahama.
According to the Assin Central MP, the picking of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang to partner president Mahama is a political ploy to win votes. He further explained that, NDC uses such strategies to gain votes and after that dumps the region otherwise they should just show to the region one important project that they have done for the region.
He took the opportunity to caution his people of the region not to be hoodwinked into voting for the NDC again. He continued that NPP has done a lot within these over three years and deserve another term to do more.
He was speaking to Kwaku Annan on Net2tv today Monday, 24th August, 2020 assessing the 2020 NPP manifesto.
