LINKING US 2020 ELECTIONS TO GHANA WILL BE ERRONEOUS

Linking the United States 2020 elections outcome to the pending elections in Ghana, to predict the possible winner will be erroneous if the analysts fail to factor and analyze the personality of the candidates of the various parties in the respective countries.

The trend that the NDC wins Ghana’s Presidential election anytime the Democrats win in US, would defy sequence in the Pending elections in Ghana.

It is an undeniable fact that Trump’s candidature caused the defeat of the Republicans in the just ended US elections.

President Donald Trump adopted the extreme protectionist strategy to govern the US, a state which has maintained the position as sole global police and the unipolar world power following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990.

The United States, since the end of World War II, has played the most prominent role in most bilateral, multilateral, regional and global integration and through US contributions to these organizations and entities, it exhibits its dominance.

Certainly, every government should exhibit the realist features of making its nation’s interest paramount. However, in this era of globalization, it is absolutely wrong to constantly defy international agreements.

President Trump from the day he assumed office as US President, threatened all bilateral and multilateral agreements to which US is a signatory.
He started with the USMCA negotiation to the JCPOA, to the Trade War and others.
Trump succeeded in culting hatred for himself and the Republicans, regionally and internationally.

Contrary to what Trump did, Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has demonstrated outstanding support for all sub regional, regional and other multilateral pacts to which Ghana is a signatory.
This led to his unanimous election as Chairman of the ECOWAS Heads of States and Government.

Another factor that caused the defeat of Trump is his unguided utterances against China, people of African descent, developing countries and other nations.

President Akufo-Addo however, has respected and loved people of various tribes and descents across the world.
This reflected in his famous “Year of Return” which brought thousands of African descendants to Ghana in 2019.

Also, it is a fact that President Donald Trump failed put together prudent measures to secure Americans when COVID-19 pandemic erupted hence, causing a devastating destruction to human life in US.

President Akufo-Addo on the other hand, took prudent measures to safeguard Ghana and his citizens from the deadly virus. This reflected in his worldly acknowledged statement “we know how to bring the economy back to life. What we don’t know is how to bring people back to life”.

Beside the usual protocols, President Akufo-Addo gave Ghanaians free electricity, free water and in some areas, he fed the masses.
He is acknowledged as one of the best Presidents in the world who managed the pandemic effectively.

In US, we saw former President Obama campaigning vigorously for Joe Biden.
Will the founder and former President, Rawlings, do same for the NDC in 2020?

The NDC claims to share a destiny with the Democrats. Let me debunk this by quoting Ama Asantewaa Ntoso who asked that “in 2012 and 2018, the NDC lost President Mills and former Vice President Amissah-Arthur respectively. Did the Democrats suffered same”?

Let’s not forget that in US 2016 elections, Hilary Clinton won the popular votes, however, Trump and the Republicans won the presidency using the electoral college.
The NDC and its 2016 candidate, unlike Hilary, woefully lost the popular votes in 2016. Which depicts that Ghanaians outrightly, lost confidence in the NDC and President Mahama.

In Ghana, the winner of the popular votes becomes the President.

Considering President Akufo-Addo’s exceptional leadership and his numerous achievements in his first term, I’m certain that Ghanaians will give him another four years which will defy the usual trend.
