Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon.Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has today toured the Fure River Forest Reserve in the Western Region following reports of illegal mining activities that has devastated about 80 hectors of the 15,823 hectors of Reserve.
Illegal mining activities were detected in the reserve about a decade ago in a small scale. However, in 2015/2016 the introduction of excavators at the site escalated posing a danger to forest officers made to guard the Reserve.

The Minister, Hon. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh at a meeting with the community members explained the new mining law and how punitive it is for those who breach it, adding that offenders will face a maximum sentence of 25years and a minimum of 15years.
