JOY NEWS/FM: THE MEDIA TYRANT IN A COUNTRY OF SYCOPHANTS

By Charles Opoku (Eastern Regional TESCON Coordinator & ER Communications Team Member)

JoyNews and Joy Fm always find a reason, albeit preposterous it may seem, to avoid rendering an apology to those they hurt and demean with their publications.

It does appear that no one in this country has the balls to call them to order. But the good thing is that, on the quiet, they are paying dearly for their arrogant and unprofessional disposition – they are losing relevance, dignity and listeners everyday. The once radio for the discerning listeners has turned to be radio for gullible listeners. No right thinking member of the society will chose Joy over Citi.

This morning, JoyNews Facebook account reported that Melcom building in Asanko had collapsed, with one man escaping death. Those who are around the area where the said incidence happened, with alacrity, under the comment section of the publication, exposed the factual inaccuracies inherent in the reportage. Apparently, the building was not owned by Melcom as JoyNews would want us to believe.

One would have expected that JoyNews, in all humility and in the spirit of good professionalism, would render an unqualified apology to Melcom and set the records straight, however, in our unsuspecting state, they have served us with the lame excuse that their Facebook account was hacked. Who will hack your account for this unproductive and non-beneficial venture? Clearly, Joy News lied but as their ‘House Style’ dictates, they will never own up, apologize and correct their wrongs.

Similar thing happened last year with their “Military in the Heart of the City” gibberish. Even after the NMC had found their conduct to be unethical and irresponsible, they refused to accept their mistakes, apologize and correct them. Rather, they came up with a senseless #WeAreJoy comedy on social media.

This nonsense must stop!!!

  1. I believe what you wrote was very reasonable. But,
what about this? suppose you typed a catchier post title?
I mean, I don’t want to tell you how to run your
website, however suppose you added a title to possibly get people’s attention? I mean JOY NEWS/FM: THE MEDIA
TYRANT IN A COUNTRY OF SYCOPHANTS | Breaking News Gh is a little boring.
You might peek at Yahoo’s front page and see how they write post titles to get people to click.
You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get people excited about everything’ve
got to say. In my opinion, it might make your posts a little livelier.
