JEAN MENSA HAS SHAMED HER CRITICS WITH HER STERLING PERFORMANCE
The Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission has done a yeoman’s job in the registration exercises across the country.
Contrary to what some political groupings and their assigns who call themselves civil society organizations have been saying ever since the Jean Mensa-led team was constituted, the performance of the EC has been exceptional.
Across the country, there have been few reports of equipment breakdowns as the exercises have been going on smoothly. The speed with which the EC responds to issues and the manner in which they address the few challenges which have come up all go to show that the EC has not been sleeping on the job.
Despite these great strides made so far, some political parties keep on bastardizing the Electoral Commission for no justifiable reasons.
The NDC, at their coronation of their running mate, took a swipe at the Electoral Commission. The party’s flagbearer took the electoral body to the cleaners, saying it is not independent and if given the opportunity to lead Ghanaians once again, the status quo would change.
One finds it extremely difficult to associate himself/herself with this jaundiced view of the opposition party since the facts don’t support their narrative. Since the very day Jean Mensa was sworn into office, they have been at loggerheads with her simply because their darling Charlotte Osei is no more.
At that clandestine meeting they held at their headquarters which got leaked into the public domain, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo urged the party’s communicators to give the EC hell. The crucifixion of Jean Mensa began even before she took office.
Though these people have been acting as the nemesis of the EC without any sound basis, the electoral managing body has shown it has the competence to run our elections despite the difficult times we find ourselves in due to the presence of the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Kudos to the Electoral Commission for such a wonderful feat so far.
