The sudden death of H.E. Flt Lt. Rawlings, the chairman of the erstwhile PNDC and the 1st President under the 4th Republic has hit the nation like a bullet.
I, like many, did not hear of any ailment as he was hale and hearty during the burial and funeral of his late mother a couple of weeks back.
He led the nation through blood and thunder to periods of tranquility; sometimes with an iron-fist, and other times with a velvet glove. He moved the nation from periods of fear to days of hope, from pain to gain!
Under his leadership, Ghana was ushered into the Fourth Republic and gradually, the nation started to rise again after a long lull. Flt Lt. Rawlings who was a paradox to many, a paragon to others and an enigma to yet many others, will surely be remembered as one of the most consequential African Leaders of our time. His catch phrase “Probity, Accountability and Integrity” found expression in the 1992 Constitution.
To the widow, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, the children, the extended family; the NDC and the entire country our heartfelt condolences.
Fare thee well, Trailblazer!
