President Akufo-Addo has been touted as a very law-abiding person and a respecter of the rule of law by a majority of Ghanaians based on findings from the latest Afrobarometer report.
According to the report, 62 percent of Ghanaians indicated that they believe President Akufo-Addo has never or rarely flouts the laws governing the country.
The latest Afrobarometer report is focused on the judicial system and the perceived corruption of the judiciary by the public.
In relation to the President, many Ghanaians are of the view that the President should adhere to every ruling of the judiciary whether or not he agrees with it or it affects him negatively.
“Most Ghanaians believe in the legitimacy and power of the courts. More than three-fourths (77%) of survey respondents “agree” or “agree very strongly” that the president must always obey the laws and the courts, even if he thinks they are wrong. In Afrobarometer’s previous survey in Ghana, in 2017, about the same majority (78%) agreed that the courts “have the right to make decisions that people always have to abide by.” A majority (62%) also say the president “rarely” or “never” ignores the courts and laws, while 22% say he does so “often” or “always,” the report stated.
