Former president Rawlings grace 63rd independence day in Sogakope


Former president Rawlings was present at the 63rd independence day march past in the South Tongu – District, Sogakope. The former president who was supposed to be in Kumasi for the national event decided to be in Sogakope.

In his speech, he was there to mourn with the people of the District for the murder of Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, who was the Assemblyman for Sogakope South Electoral area. His speech read ” Ladies and Gentlemen I ought to be here today to solidarise with you, I should have been in Kumasi for the national parade but i sought permission to absent myself and to be here to join you to express my condolences, my sympathy with all that happened last month also and especially the one that happened some few days ago”

The former president has called on everyone to help provide information regarding whereabouts of the assassins to the police for the law to deal with them.

Rawlings advised motor riders to be very careful in riding the motor bike and they should not drink alcohol when riding. He also encouraged teachers to be dedicated to their service and make sure they deliver the best to their students.

Hon. Louis Agamah, the DCE for the South Tongu District was also present at the ceremony.

The 63rd march past which took place on the Sogakope Senior High School park ended around 11:00 AM, various schools and cadets in the District took part in the 6th march.

At the end of the march past St. Catherine Senior High School came first, Comboni Vocational Institute 2nd and Sogasco 3rd and for the cadet category St. Catherine took the first again, Sogasco Cadet came second and Comboni taken the 3rd place.
