NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi’s post of the video claiming Akufo-Addo was caught on video accepting a bribe in 2017 in his capacity as President has been flagged as fake and false information.

In the run-up to Monday’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections, Ghanaians have been hit with an onslaught of lies and misleading information from the opposition National Democratic Congress.

In what has been described as the lowest in the history of Ghana politics, the NDC circulated a video which was also turned into a GIF by some social media users is purporting that Pres Akufo-Addo was caught on video receiving a bribe.

This has been discussed extensively on mainstream media and social media by the opposition party NDC with the narrative purporting that Akufo-Addo took a USD40,000 bribe in 2017 in his capacity as president, in order not to sack Alhaji Abbas who is the director of Urban Roads.

However Forensic analysis on the viral video shows it to be doctored while a much clearer and full version of the video found reveals the context of the video to be an occasion of a donation of GHS 40,000 and 1000 t-shirts of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia by one Hajia Fawzia given to support Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2016 elections.

The spokesperson for the Opposition party took to his Facebook page to calling on their supporters to ignore reports that the video is fake.

He reposted the fake version of the video only for Facebook to delete the video on his page and flag it as MISLEADING INFORMATION.

This comes as a blow to the NDC as they considered the video to be their last arsenal in the battle for power with their campaign clearly hitting a snag.
