EXPANDING ELECTORAL COLLEGE OF THE NPP IS A GOOD CALL
There have been renewed calls by a section of our party members, and these calls are being made rather pertinaciously for the electoral college of the party to be expanded to include as many grassroot members as possible.
The Majority Leader has waded into the discussion and has thrown his weight behind this suggestion. According to him, such a phenomenon would reduce the practice of aspirants having to pay monies to delegates to get them endorsed.
This call, judging from commentaries on same by many party activists on social media appears to have received a groundswell of support.
In my opinion, it could not have come at a better time due to certain worrying events which transpired at the just ended parliamentary primaries of the party.
Pursuing this idea must be a topmost priority, but it has to be thoroughly considered and rolled out. The NDC went that line but had to abandon it immediately due to challenges they faced in its implementation.
Let’s look at very pragmatic ways to expand the electoral college as that would ensure that the best persons are elected to represent the people and not just the rich and famous.
