Okay, I hold no brief for the Electoral Commission(EC), but can we all just allow it to do its work as President Mahama admonished Ghanaians not long ago?
It’s truly unnerving to watch all the sniveling and histrionic reaction to the EC’s decision to compile a new voter’s register.
The weeping, the belligerence, the self-pity reminded me of the characteristics of an alcoholic in denial.
We cannot lay claim to the moral high ground and spend time and resources opposing the same actions and inactions of today’s EC which we forcefully supported and defended in not-too-distant past.
We cannot defend every decision of the erstwhile administration of Dr Afari Djan and Charlotte Osei, and then turned around to see everything wrong with the current EC. That’s hypocrisy and double standard.
I would rather the NDC focus on the critical variables for its calculus towards election 2020-that’s strengthening the party’s base at the branches and the constituencies, while proposing alternative programs with mass appeal. After all, elections are won at the polling centres.
And while at it, people need to take a civics class and read the constitution, and allow the EC to discharge its constitutional obligation to the good people of Ghana.
This is politics. It’s not a walk in the park.
