DECEPTIVE MAHAMA PROMISES 30% WOMEN APPOINTEES WHEN HE COULD NOT FULFILL THAT OF 2012!

Gone are the days when children used to be held spellbound by the flawlessly synchronous movements of acrobats.

In fact, we used to be awed by the magical powers of magicians when we were still young. These days, even the newly born kids are not held swayed by such gymnastics.

Mahama, in his speech last night started his sumptuous pledges of making a paradise out of Ghana and making us Bill Gates if we vote for him. Of course, we take whatever that man says with a pinch of salt. We know him from yesterday.

Something struck a chord in my memory. He has promised to make sure that his administration, in the unlikely event that Ghanaians vote for him, will have 30% women representation in his appointments. He says that is a testament to the fact that the NDC is ready to offer women the opportunity to be part of the decision making processes of the country.

If it were coming from someone else, this would definitely have been a good idea, but coming from someone like Mahama, it is a mere promise.

Mahama, in his 2012 manifesto, at page 41, indicated that his government would have 40% of women as appointees. Even 25% was not realized.

He is back again with another promise, this time around, a downward figure of 30% which he claims will have women as constituents as far as his appointments are concerned.

How can we trust a man who promised 40% women’s representation in 2012, delivered less than 25% and is promising 30% this time round? Clearly, he is not aiming to appoint even 15%. He is only using women’s empowerment as a springboard to propel himself to the top!
