SUBJECT: EASTER MESSAGE – 2020
I come to you with this Goodwill Easter Message, and hope it finds you in good health as we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
Indeed, we are in difficult and trying times as this global pandemic, Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to wreak havoc and affect our social lives.
Consequently, we cannot have our usual “Yesu Asᴐr” and masquerading activities on Easter Sunday and Monday. No beach parties! We are all entreated to stay at home.
In order to prevent and contain the spread of the virus, pragmatic steps have been taken by the Government.
It must be appreciated that if church services and prayers at the Mosque have been put on hold, entertainment and popular spots should also do us good by not opening to the public, especially during this Easter Season in order not to invite the deadly virus into the Western Region.
It is encouraging to note that the Western Region has no confirmed case of COVID -19 as a result of the vigilance and hard work of the Members of our Security Agencies and the entire spectrum of health workers. I say Ayekoo, to you all as you continue to save lives and offer critical services for the sake of the Region and Mother Ghana.
I wish also to commend the good people of the Western Region for your co-operation and compliance, so far, with the directives by the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
I have noted with satisfaction, the absence of many people in our streets and public places within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis even though the twin-city is not under lockdown. It is noteworthy that the social distancing and hygiene protocols are critical in our collective fight against the deadly virus.
It is therefore, important to remind ourselves that the ban on the social gathering by the President is still in force and I ask that all gatherings and other public activities across the length and breadth of our dear Region should cease.
In the coming days and weeks, your known co-operation and support would be required in our efforts to keep the virus at bay as a Region. Take note that with recent news from the Central Region where one case of COVID -19 has been confirmed, we are not yet out of the woods; and therefore cannot and should not be complacent.
Let us continue with the fight against the deadly virus, the victorious outcome of which would ultimately define us, as a people with unique identity in a blessed Nation, Ghana.
I wish you all A HAPPY EASTER, AFEHYIAPA!
HON. KWABENA OKYERE DARKO-MENSAH (MP)
