Ghanaian Premier League campaigners AshantiGold have been thrown into deep crisis after the club’s President Dr Kwaku ‘Champion’ Frimpong resigned on Thursday over insults poured on him by the club’s supporters.
The majority shareholder of the Miners threw in the towel on Thursday just a day after the club lost 1-0 at home against little fancied Bechem United on Wednesday.
The result left AshGold fifth on the league table, dropping from the third position that the club were after their perfect start to the season that saw them topping the table at a point.
But after the raucous reaction of the supporters following Wednesday’s result the President of Ashantigold Kwaku Frimpong has announced his decision to leave with immediate effect.
“I thank everyone at Ashgold for the opportunity to lead the club. The fans should take their club now,” Kwaku Frimpong told Fox FM on Thursday morning.
