The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have decided to reward the entire team with a cash donation of GHC250,000 for winning the Tier One Special Cup competition on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.
Kotoko won the final of the GFA Normalisation Commitee-organised competition after defeating Karela FC 4-1 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
The gesture, according to the club’s management, is in recognition of the invaluable contribution of the players throughout the competition.
Per the arrangement with the Normalisation Committee, winners of the Tier One competition will be presented with a prize-money of GHC200,000 which must be split equally between the playing body and the club.
“Asante Kotoko management and the Chairman has decided to give the price money for the NC special competition which is GH?200,000 to the players because of their hard work.
“The mandatory was that we give the players GHC 100, 000 which is half the price money but we have decided to give the players the entire price money,” George Amoako, CEO of the club told Kumasi-based Kessben FM in an interview.
But based on the performance of the players, management of the club have decided to present the entire prize money to the team plus an additional GH?50,000 that Otumfuo Osei Tutu II promised to give them should they win the ultimate.
“Otumfou Osei Tutu II promised us GH?50,000 if we win the tournament. We will give the money to the players as well making it GH?250,000. Any donation made to Asante Kotoko will be given to the players for their wonderful performance” Mr Amoako added.
Even before the Normalisation Committee present the club with the prize money, the club’s Board Chairman, Kwame Kyei, will reportedly make payment to the players to be reimbursed later when the money hits the club’s account.
