The Agricultural Development Bank led by the MD, Dr John Kofi Mensah on Friday gave 1,300 high quality Yamaha outboard motors to fishermen through the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MoFA) and Coastal Development Authority (CoDA)
The items were received by r the Sector Minister , Madam Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, some representatives from CODA
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was firmly behind this initiative for all Fishermen of Ghana. The highly concessional and subsidized top brand Yamaha Outboard Motors is a key Government project and the highest quantity ever imported by ADB or any other agency to support the activitiesof the sector.
Fish , according to science provides consumers with protein which is an essential element for growth and development, especially to the sick, lactating mothers and children. Fish is filled with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins such as D and B2 (riboflavin). Fish is rich in calcium and phosphorus and a great source of minerals, such as iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium, and potassium. Clearly, when there is low harvest or production of fish, there could be health cases due to deficiencies in the many nutrients.
The outboard motors, Madam Elizabeth Afoley Quaye believes, have come at the right time to ease pressure on Fisher folks and enhance them to meet the consumption demand of the country. At a time when Coronavirus has impacted negatively on economies worldwide, she assured, the sector will see a major boost in the coming days
Fishermen from constituencies along the cost will be beneficiaries of this initiative by government through ADB.
The MD on his part assured the ministry and CoDA of their continous support to help ease the burden on the fishermen.
