A LETTER TO THE NDC OVER THEIR TRAGIC-COMEDY IN RELATION TO THE VERDICT OF THE SUPREME COURT.
It is not as though I take delight in deriding you over this tragicomedy that has befallen you today as a result of the judgment of the Supreme Court but the haste with which your General Secretary, Asiedu Nketiah came out to give his skewed interpretation of the judgment is making me restless, hence this letter.
As soon as the Supreme Court gave its verdict, it was all gaudery and pageantry as you people set social media ablaze with songs of victory. You poured congratulatory messages on your legal representatives in this landmark case.
It was more than the Triumphal Entry of Christ when he entered Jerusalem just before he was arrested and crucified. You people chanted Hossanah! Hossanah! to welcome the verdict per your understanding of same.
You believed that the relief you sought which was to allow people with old voters ID cards to use same as proof of their Ghanaian citizenship had been granted without delving into the ruling properly.
I have been occupying my mind with something which has become synonymous to you people. Many hold the belief that you people are too indolent to read. In fact, Vice President Bawumia has, on several occasions, alluded to this unwholesome attribute of yours. You have still not been able to disgorge yourselves from this rather insalubrious state of affairs.
Your happiness was short-lived and we are not to blame but your own General Secretary. In his haste to announce to the world how the NDC has been vindicated, he came out to ask you to make merry since you had won the case.
Let’s take a rather laborious trip into the substantive matter you petitioned the Supreme Court over and analyze it in relation to the verdict you so much thirsted for.
You said the EC should be stopped from compiling a new register because it didn’t have the Constitution of the land backing it. That was your primary issue.
The bit about adding the old voter ID as part of the breeder documents was in the form of a second fiddle. It was an afterthought. Even if it had been granted to you, it would not have made much impact.
You failed to take cognizance of the fact that not every holder of the old voter ID is a member of the NDC. It is not as though anyone who might have gone to register with the old ID card would have voted for the NDC. That’s why some of us found your jubilant mood to be weird. If these voter ID card holders are NDC, then Mahama would have won the 2016 elections by 11 million votes. You were jubilating over absolutely nothing, if your relief had even been granted.
Mind you, if even those people had been allowed to register, it would still not have made much difference because whoever is thought to be non-Ghanaian would still not be registered even if he or she would be brandishing the voter ID card.
Am I to swallow what John Dumelo said about you people as the gospel truth and conclude that indeed you people are not intellectuals? He said your party lacks intellectuals and hates same. Isn’t that the reason behind your inability to decipher the truth from the falsehood as contained in the verdict given by the Supreme Court?
Your logic simply sucks and that’s why you would jump into making merry when there was no justifiable reason to do so. The EC is on course and some of us are happy beyond description. Read and understand before you leap next time.
