STATEMENT BY THE NPP EXECUTIVES IN THE SALAGA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY ON THE VIOLENCE THAT GREETED THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF DAMONGO AS THE REGIONAL CAPITAL FOR SAVANNAH REGION
The constituency executives for Salaga South and the entire NPP members in the constituency, in the first place we wish to commend President Nana Akufo Addo, for his selection of Damongo as the Regional Capital for the newly created Savannah Region. As leadership, we accept and welcome the decision of the president.
It is unfortunate to recall the incident that transpired after the President’s announcement of Damongo as the Regional Capital for Savannah Region in the Salaga Township.
We condemn wholeheartedly the act of violence by the irate youth in no uncertain terms and completely disassociate ourselves (NPP) from the activities of the youth that resulted in uprooting the signage of the President and burning the constituency party office.
It is important to make apoint that, the NPP in the Salaga South Constituency has no history of violence and detests all manner of violence tendencies. We wish to assure the general public that, the party would never provide cover for the offenders of violence. Our Party is not founded on violence but rather on rule of law and fundamental human rights.
We therefore call on the law enforcement agencies especially, the Police to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.
We will like to use this medium to condemn the activities of some self-seeking individuals who remotely incited the youth to embark on such unfortunate escapade.
We also wish appeal to the teaming youth and the good people of Salaga to exercise patience and accept the choice of the President as the Will of Allah. We should always have it at back of our mind that, emotional decisions are often regrettable afterwards.
We also acknowledge the prayers of our revered Imams and Ulamms and those who played diverse roles in restoring peace to Salaga.
We finally, apologize unconditionally to His Excellency President Nana Akufo Addo, the Yagbonwura, the KpembeWura, the NPP National Executives, Regional Executives, Gonjalanders and all Ghanaians for the reprehensible actions of the youth.
