With a greater level of nuance, former President Jerry John Rawlings recounted how Madam Hannah Tetteh Kpoda mistreated his wife, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
According to the ex-president, Hannah Tetteh, the then Minister for Foreign Affairs could not dislodge the intense animosity she has for him but ensured that it got transferred to his innocent wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
Describing how the whole incident occurred, Hannah Tetteh, under the guise of greeting and shaking her hand, held Nana Konadu’s hand and squeezed it ferociously, sending spasms of pain through the very system of the former First Lady. He made this known in a speech he delivered at an event organized by some NDC activists over the weekend.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings attributed this ill-treatment meted out to his wife to the gulley-like distance that had developed between him and the then President of the Republic, John Mahama.
Hannah Tetteh, when the baton left the Rawlingses’ abode, jumped ship and formed an alliance with Mahama and his allies, leaving the man who had lifted her from obscurity into the political limelight, in the lurch.
This strained relationship was enforced by Hannah Tetteh Kpoda’s zealous intent to be considered for the vice presidential slot of the party in future elections. Believing that she stands a better chance of winning the hearts of the Mahamas, Hannah Tetteh saw in convenient and ideal to create a wedge between herself and the Rawlingses.
The ex-president asserts that though there are a couple of people in the NDC who have integrity, Hannah Tetteh is not one of them. She belongs to the side that lacks integrity, as loudly espoused in the incident he recounted.
To the founder of the NDC, characters in the shape of Hannah Tetteh are some of the destructive elements the party ought to rid itself of if they really want to make much impact in the political landscape.
The battle for supremacy in the opposition National Democratic Congress seems to have travelled a notch higher. Though seen not to have the numbers to change the noxious status quo reigning in the party now, former President Jerry John Rawlings appears not to have been defeated by it, and is doing all within his might to right all the ills comfortably sitting in the party.
The Mahama troop appears unfazed and is stoically holding on to power in the party just to ensure that they can send Mahama into the next elections once again. Hannah Tetteh is part of that group, and is working her way up to oust Papa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as the vice presidential candidate of the NDC in elections 2020.
As to whether these trending yet unwholesome events would take the backseat for peace to assume its place is an enigma that cannot be unravelled with ease.
