Radio stations scramble for space at NDC manifesto launch

Scores of radio stations from across the length and breadth of the country are scrambling for space within the Sunyani township and at the venue of the launch of the National Democratic Congress 2016 Election Manifesto to run their programmes.

Although the D-Day is Saturday, as early as Thursday evening, radio stations were seen hanging their corporate identity banners at the venue of the launch, the Coronation Park which is situated within the heart of the Sunyani township.

The Daily Graphic team also observed that the competition intensified on Friday morning when some of them moved their studios from their brick and mortar buildings in their various stations and pitched camp at either the grounds for the launch or within various vantage points in the Sunyani enclave to organise what they usually call “Morning Shows”.

Those seen organising morning shows included Silver FM from Kumasi, Ark FM from Sunyani, Adom FM from Accra and Atinka FM from Accra.

Technicians from the Muntie FM from Accra were also seen fixing their machines. Others also operated from various hotels.

Some were also seen mounting their satellite dishes in preparation for Saturday as they jostle for listeners with live broadcast of the occasion which is expected to attract the crème de la crème of the NDC, including President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Papa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, ministers of state, members of parliament, parliamentary aspirants and party supporters.

Within the park, staff of various stations were seen virtually trying to cover every available space of the inner perimeter with their branded fliers.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the host of Silver FM’s morning show, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, said he and his team were in Sunyani to offer their listeners first-hand and authentic information about the manifesto launch and also to interact with the leadership of the party and the people of Sunyani.
