Dr. Nduom Warns Politicians To Stop Stealing State Assets

The spate at which the state loses assets when there is a change of government has been condemned by the 2016 flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

The PPP stalwart in an address on ATV’s Ghana Great and Strong show bemoaned the practice of taking home assets which belong to the state.

He rhetorically quizzed whether it was right for party officials, ministers of state and to an extent an outgoing president to carry along properties which have been purchased with the tax payer’s money. His concern stems out of the refusal by some individuals to return various state assets, including landed properties and vehicles, to government.

The practice has had a rippling effect on the executive arm of government as the President of Ghana; Nana Akufo-Addo was reported to be using a 2007 model of a saloon car within Accra because official vehicles are missing from the Flagstaff House garage.

In his view, we wouldn’t progress as a nation if we continue to shortchange the nation by buying state properties which haven’t been properly valued.

It is on this note that Dr. Nduom called on both politicians and civil servants to put a stop to the practice of forcefully owning properties which belong to the state.
