DANGER LOOMS AS CIRCLE INTERCHANGE SINKS AND FACES POSSIBLE COLLAPSE!!! Disaster could soon hit the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area again as the $175 Million interchange is facing possible collapse in the coming weeks and months as a result of the weak pillars erected for the three tier interchange, which have developed massive cracks and started sinking. In the last few days, workers on the site can be seen desperately trying to reinforce the pillars to stop it from sinking but these efforts have so far failed to achieve the desired results and indications are that sooner or later, the whole interchange could come crushing down, an incident which could lead to the loss of hundreds, if not thousands of lives depending on what time of day it happens. A source at the Brazilian firm constructing the interchange has put the blame squarely on Government officials, indicating that the government blocked the initial structural plans to use big pillars fit for waterlogged areas for the interchange, preferring the current pillars with the explanation that the area is not waterlogged and only gets flooded for a few hours after heavy rains. Over 250 people died around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area last year following an explosion at a filling station where hundreds were seeking refuge from flood waters arising out of the construction of the interchange . The state of the project, whose price-tag has been overbloated by over 90% to a whooping $175m confirms a recent confession by the Minister of Local Government, Collins Dauda that on inflated contract prices and shoddy work on government projects. IT WILL BE PRUDENT,THEREFORE,TO AVOID THE VICINITY,IF YOU DON’T HAVE A CRITICAL BUSINESS TO CONDUCT THERE.
