Let’s not forget that the NDC ignored Islamic Prayers at their campaign launch in Cape Coast.
Let’s not forget that the long existing Arabic Teachers Allowance was cancelled in 2010 by the NDC government.
We deem it very unfortunate, the unethical religious statement made by Hon. Collins Dauda under the caption “Akufo-Addo will discriminate against Muslims when voted for”.
The statement by Collins Dauda sought to incite Muslims against the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party but it has rather exposed the marginalization trend the NDC has ushered on Muslims and has brought to the limelight, the love Nana Akufo-Addo has for Islam and the people within Zongo communities and Northerners at large.
Nana Akufo-Addo has in his live time, lived in a Zongo community – Nima – a suburb of Accra. Nana Akufo-Addo has love, respect and confidence in Muslims and Northerners and that’s the reason why for his third time running as a Presidential candidate, has maintained Dr. Alhaji Bawumia as his running mate so the two most dominating religious groups in Ghana (Christianity and Islam) will be equally represented in the affairs of the state.
Unlike NDC, the NPP has shown much respect and recognition to Muslims and Northerners in the national politics. The NPP is the only political party to have sent Qur’an to the highest office of Ghana.
Since the 1992 constitution came into being, the NPP is the major political party that has given much opportunities to Muslims and Northerners.
The party’s leadership race (flagbearer) is open to all party faithfuls. In 1992 when the late Professor Adu Boahene emerged the party’s flagbearer, he appointed the late Roland Issifu Alhassan as his running mate for Southern and Northern balance. In 2000 when former President Kuffour emerged the flagbearer, he appointed the late Vice President Aliu Mahama as his running mate for religious balance. In 2008 when Nana Akufo-Addo emerged the flagbearer, he appointed Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia as his running mate for religious balance together with Bawumia’s intellectual capabilities. Although they didn’t win the election, Nana Akufo-Addo has shown the confidence he has in Dr. Alhaji Bawumia – a staunch Muslims and a Northerner by maintaining him as his running mate in 2012 and 2016.
On the side of the NDC, President Rawlings in 1992 appointed the late Arkaah as his running mate (both were Christians). In 1996, President Rawlings appointed the late Prof Mills as his running mate (both were Christians). In 2000 when the first Muslim in NDC (Alhaji Mumuni Iddrisu) got the opportunity to partner a Presidential candidate, Prof Mills dropped him in 2008 for John Mahama (both were Christians).
It is of worthy to note that John Mahama is a born Muslim who opted to quit Islam due to a small misunderstanding he had with one late Imam at Bole.
According to Collins Dauda, Muslims and Northerners are comfortable under Mahama’s government. We dare to ask; Under whose government was Old Fadama excavated and evacuated?? When the people of Old Fadama were left miserable, it took Nana Akufo-Addo’s intervention to get them transport to their various hometowns. Were most of them not Muslims??? In 2012 when President Mahama became the flagbearer, he also appointed Amissah-Arthur (a Christian) as his running mate.
Now, we leave the issue for our Muslim brothers to judge – between Nana Akufo-Addo a born Christian who has on three times, proved the confidence he has in Muslims by appointing Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia to partner him to the highest office of the state verses John Mahama a born Muslim who opted to quit Islam and has never shown any confidence in Muslims again, between the two, whose government will favour Muslims?
Collins Dauda must come again. President Mahama’s failure can’t be wiped with religious and tribal politics. President Mahama’s incompetency in overwhelming Ghanaians.
