Be careful of your utterances and promises – Chief warned

A draft revised Legislative Instrument 2207 which will empower houses of chiefs to have full complement of their membership has been submitted to Chieftaincy Minister.

The House is admonishing its members and other traditional leaders to exercise discretion in their utterances and promises to politicians.

It will be forwarded subsequently to parliament for passage.

Speaking at the first general meeting for the year in Kumasi, Minister for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Seidu Danaa said, “Chieftaincy plays a core role in the stability of this country.”

The National House of Chiefs called on all stakeholders in the conduct of the November 7 general election to be neutral and impartial in the performance of their duties.

President of the house, Naa Professor John Nabila, says it is the only way to maintain public confidence in the electoral system and keep Ghana’s democratic credential intact.

“I am appealing to politicians to be circumspect with what they say in order not to plunge the country into confusion,” Professor Nabila said.

Chiefs must show fatherliness, irrespective of the political affiliation so they can uphold the sanctity of the positions they occupy, Professor Nabila emphasised.
