Former President Jerry John Rawlings has been urged to stop meddling in petty internal party squabbles.
According to a former Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Saani, he is disappointed in Mr. John Rawlings for claiming that the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Tetteh disrespected his wife.
The former president has suggested recently that former Foreign Affairs Minister, Hanna Tetteh, had bullied his wife by squeezing her hands at a state function.
In an address delivered at a Town Hall meeting of cadres and NDC activists at the Arts Centre in Accra on Saturday, 17 March 2018, Mr Rawlings said Ms Tetteh showed disrespect to the former First Lady at several high-profile functions.
“I sent a message to Mahama’s wife that if she [Hanna Tetteh] tries that again, what I will do to her will surprise everybody whether in public or private. I sent the message to Lordina hoping it will get to her husband but I didn’t get any feedback that she has been called to order, nothing. So you will not correct wrongdoers who will use violence” he quizzed.
But Alhaji Saani reacting to Mr. Rawlings’ rant could not fathom why Mr. Rawlings complained in public when he had, on several occasions, been seen tightly griping the hands of former first lady, Mrs Naadu Mills’ during a handshake at an event.
“Rawlings is being petty and it’s high time he stops that. It doesn’t speak well of a former President. He should stop being petty. Is Hannah Tetteh a chop bar operator to have a hard palm? What then will he say after squeezing Naa Adu’s hand in public when he shook her sometime back”, Saani asked.
“Naadu never complained and so why should you come out and complain about a mere handshake? He is just not being fair to Hannah Tetteh and it’s wrong”, he added on Accra-based radio station Okay FM.
Alhaji Saani is of the view that President Rawlings’ continuous meddling in NDC could undermine his image and integrity as a former president and a statesman.
