Unfortunately, Kumawuman’s rich history has for the past few decades been tainted by the disgusting behaviour of its traditional leaders. The love of ruinous corruption by the leaders oftentimes culminates in resistance mounted by certain wealthy and noble sons of Kumawuman soil. When it does happen, the said leaders resort to evil means to solve their evil problems. They do whatever it takes to eliminate their opponents from the land of the living.
This deplorable behaviour became apparent during the reign of the late Kumawuhene Barima Asumadu Sakyi II. Most of the rich men who teamed up against him for embezzling then 1.5 million Cedis in 1975/6, resulting in the famous “Yate asem” movement, to either retrieve the money from him or cause his destoolment, died. It was alleged, he was using fetish to kill them. However, some insiders alleged it was the secret application of crocodile bile that killed them. How? Only God and the perpetrators of those acts knew best.
At writing, same callous attitude is being exhibited by Kumawuhemaa and the purported Asantehene-enstooled Kumawuhene and their larger colluding brigade on course to depriving Kumawuman of their money and stool lands. As said elsewhere in some of my recent publications, they have plotted to cause harm to certain people they deem as stumbling block to achieving their nefarious objectives. Anyone who genuinely pursues a countermeasure to defeat their criminal aims and objectives is seen by them as an obstacle in their way hence meriting elimination by whichever means possible – spiritual or physical.
What a shame that some Kumawuman traditional leaders for want of selfishly exploiting the people to the hilt, will senselessly connive with other traditional leaders of other divisions within Asanteman to plot against the genuine Kumawuman subjects who oppose their evil acts for the best interests of the subjects and the locality.
Are Kumawuman subjects patriotic? Have Kumawuman subjects of today lost that fearsome warrior quality that made their forefathers first among equals in the Asante Kingdom hence Kumawu becoming a force to reckon with in the Asante Confederacy?
Let me stress to my Kumawuman compatriots that God is solidly behind all those fighting to ensure justice for Kumawuman in the ongoing Kumawu chieftaincy dispute. No amount of evil plotted against anyone who is on the side of truth will come to fruition. They will plot, but God will by his grace undo their evil plans.
I call for unity among all those members standing tall to be counted as opposing the evilness by those traditional leaders who are supporting outsiders to come and plunder the wealth of Kumawuman contrary to the custom and traditions of Kumawuman in particular, and Asanteman in general.
In this trying period where Kumawuman is on a cliff edge, I shall appeal for solidarity among all patriotic Kumawuman subjects to rally behind the leaders that are using legal means to abort the evil intentions espoused by our current Asantehene-controlled-and-supported Kumawuman traditional leaders of whom Kumawuhemaa Nana Abenaa Serwaah Amponsah and Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua stand out conspicuously.
Let me quote the Chinese and the Russians to buttress my contention. The Chinese have a saying, “Friends are revealed in misfortune”. The Russians have a similar one that goes, “A friend is not who walks to a feast, but one who helps in a disaster”. And the Ashantis have theirs; “Asem to wo a na wo hunu wa dofo” meaning “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
Are we going to sit on the fence twirling our fingers doing nothing, not showing true friendship for the famous and popular Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V, his sub-chiefs and supporters when the leading Kumawu traditional leaders have colluded to plot against them?
For how long are we going to become enemies of ourselves by continually sitting as cowards when criminals connive to oppress us and rob us in broad daylight? I have resolutely determined to support not the winning horse but the genuine horse no matter its galloping pace. I am for justice and peace but not injustice and peace or molestation. No matter the hurdles in the way, I have promised myself and God to support the genuine party in the ongoing Kumawu chieftaincy dispute. By the grace of God and by his revelation and redemption promise to humanity, all those seeking to rewrite the history of Kumawu for their selfish aspirations, shall soon be disgraced and punished by God for all eyes to see. You just mark my words.
Many a time had I heard evil said or plotted against Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V, Dr Kwabena Duffour, Rockson Adofo, Kumawu Akwamuhene Nana Kwasi Baffoe II, Kumawu Aduanahene Nana Sarfo Agyekum and Kumawu Nsumankwahene Nana Okyere Darko Fordjour. Nevertheless, the good God will forever protect them and their cause as long as they are in the right.
To conclude, I shall invite all Kumawuman subjects the world over, to cogitate about the following famous quotations which are the invigorating motivators compelling me to solidarize with all those pursuing selfless agenda and justice for the betterment of Kumawuman subjects and Ghanaians.
“First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communist and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me”, said Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) [who was a prominent Lutheran pastor in Germany. He emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps].
“Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph”, said Emperor Halle Selassie of Ethiopia.
Mark Twain on the other hand said, “In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his course succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot”.
On which side of the Kumawu chieftaincy divide do you stand, oh fellow Kumawuman compatriot? Are you with the progressives fighting to secure justice, peace and freedom for the Kumawuman subjects, or you are with those traditional leaders who are pursuing the malicious exploitative agenda to the detriment of Kumawuman and her subjects? The choice is yours. It is up to you to choose how you want posterity to judge and/or remember you.
Lest I forget, the media can be instrumental in realising justice for Kumawuman people by helping to disseminate information on the case. Much as the media are into business for money, they however have the ethical obligation to inform, educate and rally the public behind genuine causes for the betterment of the entire Ghanaian public. To allow themselves to be bought by guilty, but rich and powerful persons or parties is injurious to the socio-economic emancipation of Ghana. Your unfaltering assistance is needed in ensuring justice for Kumawuman subjects. You are not to remain mute. You are not to allow yourselves to be coerced by some so-called powerful traditional overlords to not reveal for public knowledge the development status of the case. However, the final decision is yours to make as it belongs to posterity and the public to judge you.
Is the fear or threat of death that will silence me from telling the truth? No way, or else I wouldn’t be the proud son of Kumawu/Asiampa.
