Open Letter to Ashanti Police Commandant DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku and his Outfit

Dear DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku,

May you and your core Ashanti regional police outfit be pleased to find it a blessing, although surprising, to read this open didactic letter from a concerned Ghanaian residing in far away United Kingdom. The wise decision you will make following the reading of this epistle will go a long way to save you of your integrity; prevent you from falling into trouble and the sufferance of consequential difficulties and regrets. I don’t want it to become “Had I known is always at last” to you hence this letter.

To put the nail right in the head, please be informed that the following secret plot, whether true or false, has come to my knowledge. I have been notified about an alleged request made to your outfit by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, accompanied by “Kumawuhene” Barima Safo Tweneboa Kodua and a queen, to dispatch some police personnel to Kumawu-Bodomase in October 2018 during the funeral of the mother of the rival Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V. He has allegedly instructed you to shoot him dead should he mount a palanquin as Kumawuhene.

There is the slightest truth in every rumour or allegation. As the adage, “Once bitten, twice shy” manifestly holds indisputable truth, I needed to take preventive action without any hesitation hence this publication for your attention, today, Saturday, 8 September, 2018.  Is it not said by our wise elders that, “To be forewarned is to be forearmed” and “Prevention is better than cure”?

The truth will out as long as walls have ears. Would you please mind me saying or conveying to your attention that the rival Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V, who you have been requested or tasked to harm, were the allegation reaching me hold any credibility, is the true royal with same matrilineal lineage as Barima Tweneboa Kodua I, the originator of the Kumawu Kodua paramount Stool? Do you again know that the Kumawu chieftaincy dispute, as ramified as it has become, is pending in various courts in the Ashanti region with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and “Kumawuhene” Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua (in private life as Dr Yaw Sarfo) being defendants?

If you should be approached by a defendant in a court case to kill the plaintiff, how does the whole issue appear to you? Is the requester-defendant not harbouring the fear of defeat as the ultimate outcome of the court wrangling? Does it not clearly indicate to you an outcome of obvious guilty verdict the defendant is apprehensive of, therefore, taking such an advance measure as allegedly stringently proposed to you? Mind you, should you, as you herein in applied in both singular and plural pronoun sense, carry out the dastardly request made to you, you will be held culpable and charged with first-degree murder whether you are in dressed in police uniform or not. This is because it is premeditated action. Don’t think you can go unscathed based on the assurances that might have been given to you by the Asante “Overlord”, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

It is alleged he has given you the assurance of nothing happening to you should you do as he might have requested of you. This is a complete lie oozing from a hallucinating mind to entrap you. Learn a lesson from the current fate of one police officer, Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor, who beat a woman mercilessly when she called in at a branch of the Midland Bank to withdraw her money. Is he not currently languishing in police cells or remanded in custody? Was he not ordered by the banking staff to kick out the woman? However, when things went pear-shaped contrary to their expectation to attract national and international condemnation, is it not only the police officer who has lost his job in addition to suffering incarceration? Watch the video on the incident as captured and posted on YouTube and other social media outlets.

I shall entreat you to think twice before you act on such requests which are surely contrary to the ethics of your profession. Let the fate of the mentioned police officer serve as a warning to you. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II may be untouchable in Ghana, with the  power to commit crime with impunity but not you. Therefore, be clever as the serpent not to fall prey to the enemy that comes to you dressed in a friendly cloak. He will depart from you once you have acted and become a subject of public condemnation both in Ghana and worldwide. If indeed, he is above the law, why can’t he decide not to go to court or order “Kumawuhene” Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua not to go to court because no court in Ghana can reverse his decisions made in good or bad faith, but seeking your assistance to obtain his objective? Watch the underlying video to confirm my assertion.

I have advised you but the decision to stay safe is yours. You can force a horse to the riverside but you can’t compel it to drink, so a proverb goes. All eyes and ears are now on you, watching and listening.

Lest I forget, be aware that I have escalated this concern of mine to the attention of the Amnesty International, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of National Security. Therefore, you cannot escape blame and the subsequent repercussions should any attempt be made on the life of the targeted person. What was a secret plot has by the grace of God become public knowledge. You can deny the veracity of the allegation for all I care. My objective is to prevent a premeditated crime from taking place.

I am not taking this threat lightly because I know what the Asante “Overlord” is capable of doing, using the police to do his dirty jobs for him. Did he not use then DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye to intimidate,  with intent to kill, Kumawuhene Barima Tweneboa Kodua V? This is all because of the court challenge instituted against his collusive enstoolment of Dr Yaw Sarfo as Kumawuhene for his selfish interests but contrary to the custom and traditions of Kumawu.

A word to the wise is sufficient. My mission is to fight the abuse of power come in its all forms and shapes of corrupt practices by our public and traditional leaders. This case under discussion typifies such abuses.

Yours truly,

Rockson Adofo
