Governance Analyst, Professor Gyimah Boadu has endorsed the appointment of Jean Mensah as the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
Professor Gyimah Boadu, the former Executive Director of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) said Jean Mensa who has worked in civil society for years has the managerial and technical skills to be an effective head of the Electoral Commission.
The new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission , Jean Mensa, has promised to work with all stakeholders in politics, judiciary, and civil society to uphold the sovereignty of the country.
“We will work with the parliament, the political parties and the judiciary, civil society and the media to build an electoral commission that this nation can depend on. Mr. President, we wish to assure all Ghanaians that we will hold ourselves accountable to the laws of Ghana,” she said.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said it will not back down on its opposition to the appointment of Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
National Organizer of the NDC, Kofi Adams told Citi News the party would continue to point out the flaws in the process of the appointment of Jean Mensa.
“Everything is wrong about the nomination, the council of state approval of it and the swearing-in. As NDC and as a political party we will continue to rise to everything that is wrong about this process. Democracy does not end because we have sworn in, we will continue to raise the issue to let the whole world know the behavior of President Akufo- Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP),” he said.
